Phillip's Discovery

Prologue: The Find

As his evening starts off in his new home all alone, he starts to ponder on why the last owners of the home sold it to him for so little. He started to look all over the house for something worth getting rid of. The search seemed to be endless. As he searched the house the 21 year old; Phillip thought of all of these horrid reasons on why they sold him this miraculous house.

Phillip searched on and on until he finally reached the basement. The steps were dusty from not being used lately. He thought it must have something to do with the creepy looking basement as to why they moved. Phillip made his way down the steps with each step he took creaking the worn out stair case. As Phillip reached the bottom of the staircase he started to look around and noticed the despair glooming in the room. The air smelt rancid from the moist concrete floor. The room just did not seem worth selling a whole house for. With this thought on his mind he decided to search the basement as well, for any major assets to it that could cause someone to move out.

The basement was filled with many boxes; filled with Phillips’ possessions that had not yet been un-packed. He started to move the boxes around trying to find something behind them. So far he found nothing and was starting to think there was not anything wrong with the house. Finally after lots of hard work and effort Phillip reached the last box. It was huge and weighed a ton, but Phillip knew if he left the box it would haunt him forever for not checking. He decided to look. He struggled at first but through effort and strength the box finally moved.

It was a sight too strange for Phillip to understand. The shock was too much for him to take. Everything went black. Phillip had passed out cold.

One hour later Phillip woke. He came to his senses and realized it was not that big of a deal. He looked where the wall should have been but instead a tiny door stood in its place. It was about two feet tall made of wood that looked like it had survived an intense fire. On the short door there was an even smaller blue door knob. Phillip started to wonder on what could behind the door. Crazy ideas started to fill Phillips head. He thought of dwarfs that could wield a sword and of a secret portal to Santa’s workshop used by the elves. He sat there thinking of all of these insane thoughts. Suddenly his heart started to pound. He was sure he had seen the door knob turn.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

I just finish this book for the second time in my life. It is one of my favourite books. I like so much because it combines my love for the Greek myths and adventure. Rick Riordan is a great author, he combines true facts with fiction making a great story about an demigod on his travels. This book is like a new Greek myth based on modern times. This book is about a 12 year old boy named Percy. When he is at his cabin with his mother Sally a hurricane hits causing them to flee. Their suddenly flips and they start to run. all of sudden the Minator is there and kills Sally. Percy in his rage is able to kill the beast but is knocked out after. When he awakes he finds out all about he Greek gods. After his recovery Percy finds out he is a son of the Sea God Posieon. He is accused for stealing Zeus's all powerful master bolt. Percy goes on a quest to the Underworld to recover the master bolt with his two best Friends Annabeth (daughter of Athena) and Grover (a satyr (half goat, half man)) to clear his name and his fathers. If Percy does not succeed there will be a war among the Gods (WWIII). On his way Percy has to get past lots of obstacles trying ti stop him from achieving his final goal including Medusa, Ares, A trap the makes Time go by fast, and false information. This books elements are: Action, Adventure, a small bit of Romance, and Some Riddles.

My final thoughts of this book is it is amazing. It is my 4th favourite book I have ever read after Lord of the Rings, Inkspell, and the fifth book of this series The Last Olympian. This book obviously has to be good due to me reading it twice. I would rate this book a 9/10 (yes that how good it is).

There is a movie for this  book. I thought the movie was terrible because it did not fallow the story line very well. But By brother who has not read the book said it was really good. Anyone who I here has read the book agrees its bad but anyone who has not read the book says its a really good movie. So if you want to enjoy the movie see it first. It does not give away much about the book but it still follows part of the story line.

Small Steps: Louis Sachar

This book is a spin off from Louis Sachar's first book Holes. After the boys are rescued from Camp Green Lake Theodore aka "Armpit" returns home and starts trying to fix his screwed up life. He gets a pretty job digging holes (of coarse). Then one day one of his old friends (X-Ray) comes by Theodore's work sight trying to borrow money for tickets to resell for a famous teen pop singer concert Kaira Deleon. X-Ray tricks Theodore into buying the tickets with him promising him to double his money. After not being able to sell the last ticket Theodore goes to the concert with his disabled friend Ginny. They end up meeting Kaira DeLeon  and go on a roller coaster of life. This a love story between two very different people who come from completely different worlds. Along with the strange romance Louis Sachar does a great job of putting a little bit of action and comedy.

Overall I would say this one of the best books I have read on a while. It is a classic fiction book making it one of the reasons I likes it so much because it is different from my average fantasy books I read. I would rate this book a 8.67/10

Shrine to Books Read in 2010

Deltora Quest: Forrest of Silence by Emily Roda - 7/10 (This sereies of books are about 3 companions (Lief, Jasmine and Barda) who go on a quest to find all the hidden gems of the Belt of Deltora to save the land from the Shawdowlord) I gave this book a 7/10 because its not the best book in the world but is still a very good book. I only by gave a 7 because it is veery confusiong during the begining because it goes through about 30 years in 50 pages.

Deltora Quest: Lake of Tears - 8.5/10 I gave this book a 8.5/10 beacuse it is the secound best book in the series. I enjoyed this one than the others beacuse they introduce one of my favourite caracters Manus a Ralead man (A short blue man who is mute till the end of the book).

Deltora Quest: City of the Rats - 7/10 I gave this book a 7/10 because it mainly describes the group trying to escape from multiple bulding in stead of planning to fight the beast in the City of Rats. Once Lief, Jasmine and Barda raech the City of Rats the book gets very exciting and does not let you put the book down.

Deltora Quest: The Shifting Sands - 6.5/10 I gave this a 6.5/10 because it is defintanly the worst book of the series, it does not have much action at all except the tournement in Rivermere which was pretty good. Disapointingly there is no big creature gaurding the amythiss. The only other good thing about this book is it gives you a mystery to solve about a mysterious person who helps Lief and his companions escape from the Grey Guards, his name was Doom.

Deltora Quest: Dread Mountain - 8/10 I gave this book a 8/10 because you find out how Jarred (Lief's dad) is doing and they group meets a new species of animals the Kin and the Dread Gnomes. The group meets new alies and discovers some of the mystery about Doom. They also re-unite the Kin and Dread Gnomes.

Deltora Quest: Maze of the Beast - 7.5/10 I gave this book a 8/10 because it is not they greatest story told of the battle to earn the gem, but it has a great story before that. The group meets a boy who is skilled with a bow and arrow named Dain. Dain tells them about ols (shape shifters (evil)) and that he is Doom's apprentice. The new group of 4 greats ambushed by piarates, Dain gets captured and Barda seriously injured.

Deltora Quest: The Valley of Lost - 8.5/10 I gave this book a 8.5/10 because it is tied for secound best in the serries, Emily Rodda did a great job of combinding all the elements to create a good book. These elements are: Mystery, Adventure, Confusion, Betrayal, Riddles, Death, Action and a small bit of Romance/Jelousy (these are all of the elements eccept Theme and Comedy). If you enjoy Those elemments packed into one book READ THIS BOOK.   (I recently finished the final book in the serries but I finished it on Jan. 2nd so i cant put it on here)

Inkdeath by Cornlia Funk (one of the best aurthors ever) - 8.75/10 I gave this book 8.75/10 because I read it along time ago and I dont rember to much about it just that it was realy good. One of the few things I do rember is the main characters are Meggie and Mo/Bluejay/Silver Tounge (all same person just different names). I also rember the story being told from many different points of views so you always no what everyone is thinking. It is a story of a family (The Folcharts)that gets transported into a book called Inkheart. Mo the father of the familey becomes a well nown robber who protects the Strolling Players (entainers) and the citzens from the Silver Prince (evil guy). This book also includes alot of the elemments (Action, lots of Romance/Jelousy, Adventure, Mystries and Riddles).

Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning by Rick Riordan  - 9/10 I gave this book a 9/10 because it is secoud favourite book I ever have read (Lord Rings only counts as one book). It is about a boy named Percy Jackson who finds out he is a son of Poisiedon. He sent on a quest with Grover (a satyr and Percy`s best friend) and a daughter Athena to clear his fathers name and stop the biggest war since the Trojan War. It includes all of my favourite ellements (Greek Mytholgy (theme), Action, Adventure, Confusion, a little Romance and Riddles). I am on my secound time reading this book (yes thats right it was so good I`m reading it again).

Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Sea of Monsters - 7.5/10 I gave this book a 7.5/10 because it Rick Riordan realy dispointed me, the secound book could not compare at all with the first book. Grover gets kidnapped early in the book removing him from the story line. To take Grovers place Percy meets one of his half-brothers a young Cyclops named Tyson (who is not my favourite character). Percy, Tyson and Annabeth go on ship and travel to where Grover is being kept and try to rescue him.

Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Titan`s Curse - 8.8 I gave this book a 8.8 because Rick Riordan brought back the excitement from the first book and put it into his third to addision to the series. Percy meets alot of new camapions including: Thalia daughter of Zeus (Annabeth`s best friend), Z Nightshade her band of hunters, Bianca and her little brother Nico (who are demigods with unknown parents). Percy also gets his own black pegasus name Blackjack.

Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Battle of The Labyrinth - 8.5 I gave this book a 8.5 because Rick Riordan keeps the excitement going in this new book. Percy ventures into the labyrinthe (the one the minatour was in) with Annabeth, Grover (I was so thankful he was back) and Tyson to seek help of an iventor by the name of Daedulas (Ω). They need Daedulas`s help to save Camp Half-Blood (a home for demigods (Percy, Annabeth ect.)) from Kronos`s army.

Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Last Olympian - 8.87/10 I gave this book a 8.87/10 because this book is different from the rest of the serries in a good way. Percy travels by himself (well not exactly he has Blackjack with him) for most of the book. He gets blessed by Achilles maikng percy virtualy invcible. Percy then meets up with all of his allies from the previous books to form an army. Percy leads his army against Kronos`s army in a epic war in the streets of New York.

The Fire Within by Chris D`Lacey - 7.9/10 I gave this book a 7.9/10 because it was not the best book ever but it was still an okay book. One recomendation is not to read this book by its cover, suprisingly this book has almost nothing to do with dragons but is actualy about a student (David) who writes a story about a squirrle then the story comes true. It does envolve some dragons thats clay ones though.

Ice Fire - 7/10 I gave this book only a 7/10 because I read it quite awile ago and it did not stay in my head very well like most books. I rember them taking one of my favorite characters out and replaxed her. But it also was that bad Chris intraduces one of my new favourite characters in this book. Its not a very good book i admit, but it is a nessery read to enjoy the third book which is very good so far.

Airborne by Kenneth Opal - 2/10 I gave this book a 2/10 because it is probly the worst book I have ever read. I only read this book because I had to in school for a novel study. The best and only good part of the book actually had nothing to do with the story line and was only about 11 pages long out of a 220 page book. If you have a chance to read this book DON'T. If you have a chose between reading this book and writting a 1000 word essay on socks, pick the essay it will be more entertaining. I would reccomend this book to anyone who has thoughts on becoming sucidle. WARNING: DO NOT READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Percy Jackson & The Olympian: The Last Olympian

Rick Riordan's book The Last Olympain is the fith and last book to the Percy Jackson series is jam packed with lots of action, romance and adventure. It is about a young boy who finds out he is a son of Posiedon. He goes on many adventure with his two best friends Gover (a satyr) and Anabbeth (daughter of Athena). Percy goes to a summer camp where halfblood's (one parent a god, one a human) train to fight monsters.  In the world of Percy Jackson all greek gods are real and anything else in greek mythes aswell actualy happened. Kronos (titan king and worst enemies of the Gods) is being reancarnated with the help of a camper who betrayed the gods Luke (son of hermes). Percy with his fellow campers ,all the greek gods, some magical satyrs and a group of centaurs goes to war against Kronoses huge amry. I would reccoumend anyone to this book to any one whose read/know of the greek myths. I would rate this a 8.5/10 because it is one of my favourite books that i have read so far. Before you read this great book read the first 4 in order or else this one will not make any sense.

Deltora Quest: 1-6

Deltora Quest is a 8 book series, so far I have read the books 1-6. It is about a originally about a 16 year old boy named Lief his companion Barda. They are sent on a quest by Liefs father Jared (Jared use to live with the last king of Deltora named Endin, in the castle of Del (capital of Deltora). Endin was the last king to rule Deltora before the shadow lord took control of the country of Deltora. There were 7 sacred gems in a belt (the Belt of Deltora) to protect Del from the shadow lord. When the shadow lord took over he put these gems in the most dangerous parts of Deltora. Jared rebuilt the Belt of Deltora and gave it to Lief.) to recover the gems and find the heir to the throne. The first place they go is the Forest of Silence. On there way they meet a wild girl named Jasmine (her bird Kree and her little rodent Fili) who decide to help Lief and Barda on their quest. When they get to the middle of the the face the guardian of the first stone a golden night. After they defeat this night they get there first stone the Topas. After visting the Forest of Silence the new group heads off toward the Lake of Tears. The group saves a small creature named Manus from the shadow lords servants (Grey Guards) on their way to the Lake of Tears. Manus decides to escort the group to the lake of tears and recover the gem to repay his dept to them for saving his life. The group defeats a giant fish to retrieve the second gem the Ruby. The companions take Manus home before continuing there quest to the third designated place the City of Rats. Once they group gets to island the city of rats is on they are forced to go into the under ground city. The city was filled with rats hence the name. At the core of the city there was a giant snake. Lief, Jasmine and Barda manage to kill the snake and steel his powerful gem the Opal. Lief now has three gems in his belt giving him extra strength when the group enters a tournament to win some money for food. In the tournament they meet the leader of The Resistance (group of people who try to stop the shadow lord and resist to follow his laws) Doom who loses to Jasmine in the final battle. After the tournament the group starts off towards the Shifting Sands. Shortly after Leif and his companion leave they are attacked by 2 Grey Guards and taken prisoners. Doom comes to the rescue to free the group and let them continue there quest. Once the group reaches their designation they find out it is just a huge dessert. At first the group thought it would be impossible to the gem in such a big dessert but Lief soon realises that the belt was pulling him towards it. Once the group finds where the gem is hidden they find out it is under ground in a hole. Barda and Jasmine slowly lower Lief into the hole with a rope. Lief easily finds the Lapis Lazuli. They then take the journey to Dread Mountain. On there way Lief saves a baby Kin (the origanal creatures of dread mountain before the shadow lord took the mountain for himself) from a gang of Grey Guards. For Liefs bravery three adult Kin volunteer to fly Lief and his companions to Dread Mountain. The Companions find out that Doom has been to dread mountain before. As they venture in to the mountain they have escape many different traps set to kill intruders to the mountain. When they get the top of the mountain the find that a Giant Frog like thing (why are all the gems guarded by giant animals) that can spit poison that will kill you instantly, but Leif had brought some poison of his own that turns evil creatures into trees. Right before the creature tries to spit on Lief he throws the poison into the Frogs mouth, turning him into a tree and leaving the Emerald for Lief to put in his Belt. Lief then heads off towards the Maze of the Beast. On his way he meets a Follower of Doom named Dain.Dain takes Lief, Barda, and Jasmine to the hideout of The Resistance, who suspringly put the group (other then Dain) in their dungeon. Dain disobeys Doom (who is like a father to Dain) and frees thecompanions to help them on their Quest. The new group Lief, Barda, Jasmine and Dain are captured by pirates. The pirates throw Lief Jasmine and Brada in to the Maze of the Beast think the beast will kill them. Lief, Jasmine and Barda find the gem in the maze before having to fight the beast which a Giant Slug. With the Amythys in hand the group heads off to free Dain from the pirates.

That is where the six book ends. I am soon going to start the seventh book called The Valley of Lost. I would recommend these books to anyone 11+. They are a short read usually only being about 120 pages. I would rate this series so far a 8/10. It is in the fantasy genre.

The Lord of the Rings: J.R.R. Tolkien

The best books ever written in the worlds are written by no other then the crazy man J.R.R. Tolkien himself wrote this three book Sega The Lord of the Rings which are exciting, thrilling, and unsuspecting books about a young hobbit name Frodo Bagins who is on a quest to save middle from the evil Sauron(I do not how to spell it). Frodo is sent on a quest to the lands of Mordor with 8 companions(3 hobbits name Sam, Pippen and Marie, 2 men named Aragorn and Boromir, a elf named Legolas, a dwarf named Gimli and finally the great wizard Gandalf the Grey(white)) chosen chose by the counsel of elders. They are sent to destroy Saurons most powerful weapon that Frodo now has possession of the One ring. The group sent on this mission are the Fellowship of the Ring (book ones title). This book takes u all over middle earth from the peace full land of the hobbits the Shire to the glorious land of men Gondor and the ancient abandoned land of dwarfs the Minds of Moria.  When reading this book you will learn about all different kinds of species from elfs to orcs and dwarfs to men.  You will learn of all the magic rings ever made and who they were given to. You will be able to look at the map of middle earth and follow the path the fellow ship is travelling on.  At the end of the the third book if you want to learn more about middle earth you can read the appendix(history and short stories of earlier ages in middle earth).  If you enjoyed Reading this Sega read other books by J.R.R Tolkien which most of these books are connected to the main books The Lord of The Rings; such as The Hobbit or The Children of Hurin. I would recommend this book to anyone 12+ and who enjoys books with excitement, detail, fantasy, mid evil times, magic, and mythical crature.

I would rate these books 9.5/10 because they are favourite books I have ever read. My favourite book out the three is the second book: The Two Towers because it is mainly about one of my favourite characters (next to Legolis) Pippen and his side journey to becoming a night of Gondor. It includes a huge battle between the Fellowship and a giant group of orcs who came to kidnap Frodo for Sauron. It also the battle of Helms Keep where Legolis and Gimli have a compatistion to see who can kill the most orcs.

When your done reading the books check out the famous Lord of the Rings movies which one of my favourite movies based on books because they include most of the story line from the books with great detail. There are few changes of the story line for the books.  All of the actors fit the characters descipitons in the book very well. If you loved the books as much ass I did you should check the movies. Actually even if you did not enjoy the books check the out the movies because every one who sees them thinks they are amazing. You should also keep your ears tuned for the new prequel to the Lord of The Rings, The Hobbit which is about the hobbit who adopted Frodo and raised him as his son Bilbo Bagins. Bilbo goes on a quest with a group of dwarfs and Gandalf the Grey to rid the dwarfs mountain of the last dragon of middle earth Smog. The Hobbit should be a very good movie because it is directed by the same director that director The Lord of the Rings. I can not wait till it comes out.
